…and now we do it all over again!!

It’s been three weeks since I last wrote, so may I remind you: last time, we had just finished spreading the concrete for the left hand floor…

…so now it’s time to do the right hand side. We started by clearing away the rubble and cutting the waste wood to fire wood, stopping only to…

…take delivery of the sound insulation and other items for the next phase. Most of these items can live outside, but with storm fronts approaching, we put the insulation into the dining rooms to keep them dry and ensure they do not get blown into the next county.

Having slogged away to clear the site, we then…

…started doing some filling in. Below you can see the base of a stanchion which we shuttered around and then filled the void with concrete.

Once that was set, I barrowed sand over the old floor and spread it out, after which Mike used his (current) very favourite tool, the plate compactor, to compress it flat.

Just in case it wasn’t clear, here is a photo to clarify what I had been doing.

After all this activity, we decided we needed a break. Sadly, our No. 1 venue choice was not possible due to illness, so instead we stayed home and took day trips out. Below you can see the sand and sea off the west coast of Anglesey…

…and here a lovely shopping arcade in Chester.

The weather was somewhat damp, but it was great trip to this beautiful city, and – with Pip – we especially enjoyed the ‘Sick to Death’ museum.

We also tried a Zip adventure in the form of a guided tour of the old slate workings.

When our holibobs were over, we laid the damp-proof fabric…

…followed by the insulation…

…which we finished with squirty foam between the panels and then stuck them together with duck tape.

We were then held up, as we have been repeatedly lately, by the weather. You may have noticed that there has been lots of wet weather lately, and we need a dry-ish day on which to receive the Readimix. We have now ordered the concrete for delivery next Tuesday, so in the meantime…

…we turned our attention to building between the suites and what will become my office. Here you can see the insulation located within the wall cavity, and that both sides of the block wall, and the two walls at right-angles are being fully tied together. Building work will be delayed now due to very welcome half term guests, but we are keeping everything crossed, hoping that the weather holds for next Tuesday’s delivery!
