Hi ho hi ho – and so much more to go…

On Monday, Mike and I returned to finishing the toilets in the long corridor. We put the last shelves and handles into the accessible toilet…

… and we fitted the water heater into the gents, before…

…starting to box in the pipes. In short, all the fiddly bits that we tend to leave to the end, and for which Mike is essential, which meant I could be released occasionally to get back to my real strength…

… destruction! Back at work with lump hammer and bolster chisel, I started by removing the door architrave below to find that the walls were never plastered. I mentioned this to Mike who commented “Keeping it classy, Plas” which I suspect we might find ourselves saying a few more times over the next year, as we move on to the really big demolition task.

I worked away from this doorway towards the cubicles, removing the tiles from one wall, and then from a ‘bulge’ set within the wall. As the tiles came off the bulge, it became clear that the plasterboard was very damp, so I picked that off too…only to find what we think is an original external wall from a separate building which was incorporated into Plas in the 1970’s remodelling.

We will learn more about that hopefully as our work progresses, and we uncover other elements. Meanwhile, on with the destruction…

…which should keep me busy for at least another day or two. I wonder what we can find for us to do next?
