Now starting the ground floor for real!

We built a little more of this wall, which now stands only two blocks below full height. Before we can continue we need to cast a block on the right hand side, just above the height of Mike’s head. But that’s for another day…

We have decided to start building the stud walls. First, we knocked down a slightly wobbly bit of wall that supported a lintel which is now at the wrong height (as the floor height has risen) – so the wall and lintel are now both gone.

Meanwhile we put together a section of the stud-and-noggin dividing wall between the two suites – in fact, we built two identical sections, and stapled chicken wire to one side of each (to later hold insulation in place) and then raised them up…

…to be attached to the stanchion you can see below via the wooden uprights we attached to it.

Each of the sections had soundproof tape attached to it on the base and the side nearest the stanchion…

…as you can see here below.

This should mean, once we have installed the sound-proof insulation between the walls, that the two suites are not troubled by noises from the adjacent suite.

Given that the weather here at present is pretty filthy, but which I mean it is raining a lot, that’s pretty much all the progress we have made this week, but just look at the lovely scenery we are enjoying…

…as the autumn colours are beginning to make themselves known. What better could we be looking at as we pause between our tasks!
