The Sun had got her hat on and all was right with the world…

…so Mike and I went to the annual Conwy Seed Fair on Monday. We had a great time with my brother (also called Mike) as we rifled through the many packets of seeds before selecting quite a few that we simply couldn’t be without.

There is a cracking view of the castle and the surrounding area whilst walking the castle/town walls, so we didn’t exactly rush back home.

When we got home, we returned to the foundation works. We have now completed two blocks high on each of the foundation walls, bringing them roughly level with the existing slab. We will need to add a further block soon, but are leaving this until after the steels have been delivered, since heavy machinery can now access the site, but not once the extra block height is added.

Whilst we wait, though, we are filling in the trench either side of the wall to fill up the gaps and also get rid of the piles of spoil…

…carefully ensuring that no parts are higher than the level of the existing slab.

The first day we shovelled by hand, but the next day we got the mini-digger working which served the dual purpose of saving our muscles, and also tamping the infill down as Mike drove over the trenches!

Slowly but surely, we are making progress…

…although we still have quite a heap of spoilt to squeeze in somewhere.

We were tired by the time we finished today but it looks like we wore Lola out completely…

…but we are delighted that today was a lovely day to be outside. We have had a lot of grey days lately, but by this afternoon, the sun had really turned up the heat. When we stopped for a panad on the seats outside the breakfast room, we looked up the hill and saw that the moon had come out in sympathy. What a glorious day.

Now that the Easter holidays are with us, we will be very busy with the suites, but since the clock is ticking for the arrival of the steel frame, I am hoping I will be writing again soon…
