Whilst we wait for new foundations…

…we have been finding other things to do, as we have made no progress on digging out until we hit rock. Our attention has been elsewhere…

…specifically to the porch. Above you can see the painted roof interior which we gave a really thorough wash and spider’s web removal, and found the paint was sound so we have left it alone. We then considered the walls very carefully and concluded they needed to be re-stained but not painted, as we wanted to leave the porch as ‘original’ as possible. The colour currently is a lovely light tan, so we will need to choose carefully. Work starts on this tomorrow…

…because we have spent the last few days preparing for the extreme weather event that (mercifully) should mostly miss us. We have changed all our duvets to summer-weight duvets, which means we have about 15 regular-weight duvets to store. Fortunately we have discovered vacuum storage bags!

Our other big progress recently is the hall fireplace which has moved from this….

…to this and then…

to this! The mirror (courtesy of Tony, to whom many thanks) brings a lot more light into the hallway so, on balance, we are prepared to live with less wallpaper in exchange for more light!

The really good news is that our contractor is able to visit us next week so hopefully we will be able to dig down to bedrock and make some progress on the foundations shortly…or at least that is our earnest hope!
